Annual Research day of Gulf Medical University concluded at the university campus on 21st November 2021, marking the end of the two-day event to discuss and deliberate on the research studies conducted in the university over the past year. This year, there were a total of 42 paper presentations, including 54 posters, covering observational and experimental studies conducted in multiple settings, the University hospital, community and the laboratory. Students, Faculty, and researchers participated and showcased research outcomes and perspectives.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event, Prof. Hossam Hamdy Chancellor of Gulf Medical University said that the aim of organizing Research Day was to foster greater collaboration between the different medical and health sciences faculties, to nurture a culture of interdisciplinary research. “I sincerely hope these research studies will serve as a nidus for greater innovation and translation research in the future,” he added.
Prof Salem Chouaib Vice Chancellor Research and Director-Thumbay Research Institute for Precision Medicine explained that “Since the inclusion of Research in the strategic plan of GMU we have made significant achievement and aim to bring the best of technology and innovation and combine them with GMU’s teaching practices, so that our students stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field our Center has been conducting advance research in various modalities,” he explained.
We have created unique technological platforms and an outstanding Infrastructure for research on imaging, functional genomics, sequencing with NGS facility allowing us to establish the first liquid biopsy facility in the region, the zebra fish and a platform for drug discovery will help us to provide pertinent training to our researchers and students.
We are also honored by the Prescence of Two International Keynote Speakers Prof. Pierre Corvol Professor emeritus at the Collège de France, President of the French Academy of Sciences. and Prof. Giorgio Trinchieri MD, Laboratory of Integrative Cancer Immunology, Center for Cancer Research, National Cancer Institute, National Institute of Health.
Every year, GMU sets aside two full days to present the research studies conducted in the university and provide the university community an opportunity to attend the presentations in large numbers, hear the discussions and benefit from the new knowledge that has been generated.
